Give to support Lyndale now!
PTO Opportunities
All leadership positions will be voted on at the December meeting. Nominate yourself or someone else from our Lyndale caregiver community! Current PTO leadership welcomes new voices. Officers may serve up to two years.
President - current President: Andy Arsham
The position of President works with committee chairs and PTO officers to create meeting agendas and leads regular PTO meetings and makes budget decisions with other PTO officers.
The President and Vice President both work closely with the school Principal and Assistant Principal to identify needs and opportunities for the PTO to support the school.
Typically, a person in this role serves one year.
It is common for two or three people to share the role as co-presidents.
Vice President - currently vacant
The Vice President works with the President to identify needs and opportunities for the PTO to support the school.
The position of Vice President serves with the expectation that the VP would become the President the next school year.
In addition to standing in for the President when needed, the Vice President oversees new family tours during school enrollment season–generally November through February. This entails setting tour dates and recruiting tour guides for each date, training new tour guides, communicating tour dates with the school office and website admin, and serving as a point of contact for the school secretary.
The Vice President usually also serves on the Events and Engagement committee.
We don’t currently have a Vice President—maybe that’s you!
Secretary - currently vacant
Takes and records minutes PTO meetings and keeps all records of the organization. They work with the communications team to publish minutes on the PTO website.
The secretary also serves on the communication committee.
We don’t currently have a Secretary—maybe that’s you!
Treasurer - Current co-Treasurers: Sten Severson and Mustaf Mohamed
This position can be two people.
The role of the Treasurers is charged with ensuring the PTO raises and spends money responsibly and keeps an accurate record of receipts and expenditures. They are also responsible for filing our non-profit taxes.
In consultation with PTO leadership, the Treasurers propose the annual budget and give regular budget updates at meetings.
The Treasurer serves on the fundraising committee.
It takes a lot of people to support our school community. Join us on a committee that fits your interests and skills.
Events and Engagement
The Events team will work closely with the school Family Liaison to create opportunities for family fun and connections.
Organizes school community members to volunteer for specific roles and tasks for events.
Other activities include weekly fall and spring play dates at the Lyndale playground, Read-a-thon “reading cove” and feathers, fifth grade recognition, and more.
Do you have a fun activity in mind for Lyndale students and families? Do you want to plan and run fun events that help build community? To help, please contact the current chair, Rebekha Gertcher, bekha1983@gmail.com.
Fundraising
Many of the great things we want to do to support teachers, students and families cost money. The fundraising committee oversees incoming money and sets goals with the treasurer as part of budget planning.
Our goal this year is to generate and implement a few new ways to engage our families and community (all gifts - gifts of time, talent, treasure, and wisdom count!).
Our two biggest fundraising campaigns annually are “Give to the Max” in November and Read-A-Thon in late winter/spring. Give to the Max (GTTM) is a state-wide charity online giving day. It has historically been our largest fundraiser of the year. Last year funds raised from GTTM went toward the new Artists in Residence program.
Finding and submitting grants are a wonderful avenue for supporting larger school projects like the Artists In Residence program. This team will work with the school teachers to match needs with opportunities.
In the past this group has also organized restaurant fundraisers.
Do you have a fundraising opportunity in mind? Do you have a knack for organizing and coordinating projects? Contact current chair, Frances Roen, francesroen@gmail.com.
Communications
This group sends out these newsletters and posts to our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LyndaleCommunitySchool. We need folks to help write posts and content and check translation.
The PTO website is also under the Communications team. People with web skills are welcome to help us revitalize our site: www.lyndalepto.org.
This group will also help PTO connect with classroom caregiver leads.

Even if you don’t currently have time to commit to a leadership role or serve on a committee, we still want your IDEAS! What sorts of events and gatherings would you like to see in the future? What fundraising ideas do you have?
